Kraft sells 7 million boxes of mac and cheese worldwide every week. About this time last year, the company announced it would stop using artificial ingredients in this iconic product. There was some concern, perhaps inspired by the disastrous “New Coke” experiment from years ago, but in December, the company quietly switched to the new recipe ahead of schedule, and we all just kept eating. Turns out it tastes exactly the same as before. Cynics might say, “baby steps! greenwashing!” — but 1 million boxes per day, many being scooped into tiny little mouths, now feature paprika and turmeric instead of Yellow #5 and Yellow #6. That’s pretty great.
